Yamaha DGX650 Digital Piano Review

yamaha dgx650
(4.9 / 5) Reviewed by Digital Pianos Advice Team

Last year, Digital Pianos Advice Team bought this great digital piano, The Yamaha DGX650 digital piano, and we have finally finished our review. We do enjoy a lot of its unique features especially the XG Song Files that let you play along with not only the preset voices, but also the preset recorded songs of a big variety of famous artists today which makes the process of learning piano even more fun. We use this feature often when practicing with our students to keep them engaged. However we’d like to point out one true fact that could be annoying to someone, is that this piece of equipment is quite heavy.

Just to keep in mind yamaha DGX 650 is not a piece of instrument that you can just move around easily. We tried to move from one classroom to another it took 2 man power to do so we later on just decided to leave this beautiful Yamaha DGX 650 in one room permantly. Other than that though, what you’re getting here is a real deal that will really skyrocket any piano player’s skill level and give you brilliant sound and dynamics for all of your personal performances.

We think the Yamaha DGX 650 is labeled as a portable grand digital piano because it really doesn’t take up too much of a space. It’s quite compact however as we mentioned above, the yamaha DGX 650 digital piano weight itself is quite heavy, along with its matching stand it could easily be about 100 pounds.

Customer Reviews

There are more than one thousand online review ratings on the Yamaha DGX 650 and the majority are overwhelmingly positive. Currently there’re 61 reviews on amazon with 53 people giving a 5 star rating.

We spent hours reading through many to understand the overall feeling for this model and why people liked it so much to make sure we’re giving our clients the best honest review. Not surprisingly, the only one drawback that people complain about the yamaha DGX 650 is having to haul around a 80 something pounds digital piano to gigs could be a bit of a hassle for them. We totally agree and understand how they feel as we had to haul around even heavier equipments before playing around town. But think about the acoustic drummers that have to take down their drum kit piece by piece after the show and to set it up before the show. Sometimes you just need to do what you need to do to get the job done.

This Yamaha DGX 650 digital piano price is actually really reasonable given that a lot of functions and features that come with the digital piano.  The results can be very rewarding, thought it will take a while to get used to! But who say learning piano is a fast and easy process right? In our opinion, you will never get a better instrument than this, although you many have to spend a bit more. To check out the lowest price on Amazon, please click on the below link:

Overall Review

Yamaha DGX 650 really is an excellent all-around digital grand piano that isn’t as piano-centric as some of its competitors. In spite of this, it does provide incredible quality of sound and helps make up some of the areas it is lacking with an enormous song database and tons of voices and sound effects. The LCD screen makes it super awesome simple to use and the record and USB functions are all a working musician needs. But the real sticking point here is actually the price of the Yamaha DGX-650. We love how Yamaha always develop these reasonable priced digital pianos with good quality which makes their name last so long.

P.S. Please do keep in mind not all digital pianos you see on Amazon come with the necessary accessories. Some listed as a “bundle” cost a bit more than just the digital piano itself as the package includes several necessary items. Please click here to check out our accessories page.

Product Description

If you close your eyes and play the Yamaha DGX650B, you won't know it isn't a real acoustic piano. This 88-note keyboard is loaded with smart functions that make it feel and sound like the real thing. The Damper Resonance DSP function digitally reproduces sympathetic string vibration when the damper pedal is depressed. And, all 88 keys are weighted for a heavier touch in the low end and lighter on the high end, just like a real acoustic piano. The Yamaha DGX650B is definitely a great alternative to a real piano, but it's also loaded with some amazing functions that only a Yamaha keyboard could provide. For instance, it's XG-optimized for Yamaha's "You Are The Artist," meaning you can choose the song you want to play from the keyboard's song files and have an instant backing band. And, with the easy-to-use USB recording capabilities, you can easily transfer your playing to your computer and share your masterpieces with anyone. The perfect marriage of technology and realism- the Yamaha DGX650B!

  • AUX line input: Connect any device with a line output like mobile devices, computers, mixers or even another keyboard and hear it through the internal speakers.
  • 128-note polyphony: Provides enough horsepower for a dropout-free performance while layering two Voices and playing two-handed, sustained chords.

When we were all just starting out buying any pro instruments for the first time, we made all kinds of mistakes before such as buying a digital piano home but found out it's either too complex to use or with too little functions then ended up having to take it back for an exchange or what not. Don't you just hate that? So we started writing digital piano reviews by analyzing every aspect of each model thoroughly and putting my information together here in one location. Enjoy!
