Casio CAS PX150 Digital Piano Review

Casio CAS PX150 Digital Piano Review (4.5 / 5) Reviewed by Digital Pianos Advice Team

The PX-150WE represents a significant step in the continuing evolution of the Privia digital piano line. A combination of a new keyboard action and a powerful new sound engine provide a new level of detail, nuance and expression for a superior grand piano experience in the lightweight and stylish design that Privia is known for.

We would have to say this PX150 is another wonderful digital piano we recommend for beginners for this price position. The scaled weighted action keys feel is excellent, it makes you feel like you’re playing on a real acoustic piano once again. Keys are a bit harder to push on because of its Tri-sensor Scaled Hammer Action but it’s also a good thing as you’ll have the ability to develop finger strength about this instrument especially if you are to practice classical pieces.  Besides this, it also offers 18 manufacturer presets and 128 polyphony notes, two built-in speakers and two 8W amplifiers though it has just 1 pedal. What our teachers and students enjoy the most is its Duet Mode, we used to practice together with students a lot using this feature as the keyboard can be split into two equal ranges which makes practice easier and more fun. All round, we’d undoubtedly advise this keyboard similar to a basic digital piano for virtually any college student with limited funds.

Casio Privia PX-150 keyboard & Sound Quality

The new PX-150 represents a significant step in the continuing evolution of the Privia digital piano line. A combination of a new keyboard action and a powerful new sound engine provide a new level of detail, nuance and expression for a superior grand piano experience in the lightweight and stylish design that Privia is known for.

The new PX-150 also features a new redesigned 88 note Tri-sensor scaled hammer action keyboard. This new action features new simulated Ebony and Ivory textured keys for a incredible feel and it’s three sensors capture the dynamics of a performance with unparalleled speed and accuracy. To further enhance the experience, the action and the sound engine take into consideration the speed at which different sized hammers move inside acoustic grand relative to velocity the keys are pressed, this timing nuance provides the ultimate key to sound experience.

The award winning grand piano sound in Privia has been dramatically improved. The new PX-150 utilizes more than three times the memory of the previous generation for a more natural piano tone. In addition, Casio’s new proprietary sound source “AiR” (Acoustic and intelligent Resonator) provides unmatched realism and detail. This engine provides seamless dynamics for a remarkably expressive and powerful performance. For further realism a new Damper Resonance simulator provides the rich sound of the strings when the sustain pedal is used.

Customer Reviews

Besides the affordability, you will discover many crucial details about the PX150 that have helped it to achieve a 4.4 out of 5 star average rating on Amazon.com. However, we’ve read hundreds of reviews from other consumers and there are a few general issues that came up repeatedly. As listed in the Cons section, there were several mentions the keys are a bit hard to press down, In our opinion this is actually good thing for students to build up finger muscle strength. Once again these are digital pianos, not electric keyboard there’s a difference (Please check out our buying guide for more information on the differences between types of pianos). However, we do agree with the boot on time, it usually takes about 10 seconds for the piano to warm up we believe it’s more a personal preference as waiting 10 seconds is really not that big of a deal.

Overall Review

Whenever we do a product review, we always try to focus on the distinguishing factors that make one product better for some group of consumers over a competing product. In the case of Casio Privia PX150 might be a good choice if you’re a beginner and looking for just enough voice selection but not too overwhelming, heavier weighted keys to practice on. If you totally don’t care about messing around with different voices at all then you might find the Yamaha P35 a better buy, even simpler to use. Once again please do to keep in mind, don’t forget to check out all the extra accessories as some of the digital pianos do cost a little more with its “bundle” option that include a stand, pedal or what not so do carefully look into those as well.

P.S. Please do keep in mind not all digital pianos you see on Amazon come with the necessary accessories. Some listed as a “bundle” cost a bit more than just the digital piano itself as the package includes several necessary items. Please click here to check out our accessories page.

When we were all just starting out buying any pro instruments for the first time, we made all kinds of mistakes before such as buying a digital piano home but found out it's either too complex to use or with too little functions then ended up having to take it back for an exchange or what not. Don't you just hate that? So we started writing digital piano reviews by analyzing every aspect of each model thoroughly and putting my information together here in one location. Enjoy!
